So I have been feeling quite blue lately. ok not Blue but straight up depressed. life is very dishearting for me right now. so I thought maybe it would make me feel like not hiding under a rock if i shared a little sparkle DIY project I just finished up today.

my Tweenager has some of the cutest tshirts from stores like aeropostale and American Eagle and I just love this one. well story on this shirt is that it keeps ending up in the laundry room.... and its still folded and clean... i asked" honey why arent you wearing this so cute shirt anymore and keep hiding it in the laundry?' tweenager says.... " ohhh mom your so not with it.... I dont wear cute stuff anymore"!!! ahhhhhh as if...... so I became the proud owner of a "too cute" Tee!

Supplies needed (all should be things found around your house... FREE DIY):

*old frame

*paint color of choice

*"cute" fav Tshirt

*trusty hot glue gun

*embelishments.... buttons,ribbons,chipboard cutouts, etc

I laid out the shirt as flat as possible. and took the back of frame and traced it on the solid portion of shirt ie... the extra spot below emblem wanting to frame.

Cut out the objects of choice on your shirt .

this is my layout with embelishments.... this is where you mix and match and really show off your creative side. I chose words that emphasize our family values. they are made out of chipboard that I already had from a scrapbooking kit.

Foo-Foo fall tree...

ok so here is another decor project that I was suppose to do last year at this time. and once again just finsihed. check mark it off the list. :) My mom and I saw these feather boa tree thingys at Hobby Lobby last year at halloween but in black (which was super cute but super expensive). so mom found these chocolate brown boas on clearance and bought me some, since I love that color. and told me to knock myself out making the trees because we all know me and Im cheap... which means I will never pay retail for decor.

Supplies needed for Foo-Foo feather tree:
1-styrofoam tree thingy
2-3 feather boas (any color you want)
Trusty Hot glue gun with lots of glue sticks.
and candlestick siting around your house screaming for a pillar candle to sit atop (emphasis mine) that never seems to find a mate.

See simple... supplies right?

Just start at the top and glue around the styrofoam in a swirl pattern pressing the boa and repeat till you get to the bottom.

I would hold my tree upside down and blow on the feathers as I only have two hands and one had the tree and the other was trying to work the glue gun and wrap the boa around. could not move existing feathers out of way for next layer of hot glue. :) that little hint is free. and helps move the already glued feathers out of the way so you can get the hot glue on the styrofaom versus ontop of upper layer of feathers.

My heart was left in Haiti I feel like. We have been home for 2 weeks now... and I still wake up with a sharp pain where my heart was. And I cant help but think Its gone missing.....I firmly believe that if you looked out over the Ocean from the shore of Port De Paix,Haiti you just my find my heart. I believe if you looked in the eyes of the 27 3rd graders I insantly fell in love with at Sonlight Academy ( http://sonlightministries.org ), You will find my heart. I bet if you were standing on the side of the mountain in La Pointe over looking the town of Port De Paix. You would see my heart there too. Visit the Childrens hospital there ( http://houseofhopehaiti.blogspot.com ) and yep you guessed it.... My heart was left there. What does this mean when you wake up everyday feeling God speaking to you from somewhere else? Somewhere your not but should be? I need to be back there.Why do I need to be back there? well because there the people are just happy to be given another day. and here we find it hard to find happiness in anything... WHy do we put so much pressure on ourselves to have the best, be the best? what happened to the sense of community? THere in Haiti the children have nothing. and here our children have more than enough and yet are jonesing for the next bigger and better thing. never taking the time to just enjoy being a kid.

I cant wait to go back to Haiti and visit or (who knows.... even stay) where my heart is.

Please feel free to leave me your thoughts. And continually keep my friends in Haiti, at sonlight Academy and House of Hope (located at the childrens hospital) in your daily thoughts and prayers.

Our adventure has begun and will take 'flight" this Friday morning quite literally.
to all those in blog land my story begins back in January when an Earthquake hit an already devastated and impoverished country... Haiti. I knew of Haiti's history of bad luck before the earthquake. but that day the lord put some kinda fire in my heart and my spirit wasn't gonna rest until i was following him to where he was leading. I actually had a very loud conversation with god and it went something like this... "what, Lord, you want this Lil stay at home mother of 4 just to hop a plane and leave my family to go where?" "what are you crazy? what could I possibly have to give? and all the preparation and the expense and sense of safety".
but the more i questioned and watched the news the more the lord spoke and poked and prodded at my heart and soul. Now that i was over the initial shock of gods work for me. I was excited. I wanted to share my excitement with my family and friends. let me just say this... not everyone was as excited as me. but lucky for me I've never been one to back down on something just because its not socially acceptable.
"now whats next Lord' i asked.... ahhhh a passport. yikes.,... those are pricey. but i was blessed and was given passport money for my bday in Feb.
I then got a call from a good friend who is equally in-love with Haiti and she asked if i was interested in going with them (a team from our church) that march! whats so cool was that was the first she really knew of my passion. God again just poking at my heart again.
well i got on board, unfortunately that trip was put on hold. I was devastated.... because "no lord, I said, you put this on me, you sent this trip to me, this is what you wanted me to do" I cried.and i have my passport and I started learning Creole!
well things happen for a reason. A wise lady said that God is in control and i need to have faith. That god has something in store. that he is opening up doors for something. Faith I thought... is that the lesson I'm suppose to learn.?
That was March.... somewhere in June I believe i got an email about a team being put together for another mission trip to Sonlight Christian academy in Port Au Pa ix Haiti in Sept. I didn't even think i jumped! sign me up. Now the cool thing about this....The Wise woman i told you about ....she was right.Something amazing happened... My husband jumped on board. and said he wanted to share in this adventure and experience that "fire" i had. He wanted to go where he was called.
The lord blessed me for my faithfulness in some very trying times since the first trip was postponed.... what a lot of people don't know was that my marriage was almost over. I believe God has used this experience to serve in Haiti as a way to teach me faithfulness. I believe that I was not able to go on the first trip because god merely just planted that seed that there is a need there to show gods love. I believe he was waiting so that my husband and I can go together and get a good Ole dose of reality. We leave for Haiti this Friday. Sept. 17 and I cant be more happier to be sharing this trip with my husband and good friends.I believe that through the people we are gonna cross in Haiti Im gonna find out what really matters in life. I believe that im gonna find a new love in my husband and that the faithful are rewarded.
I started out with a mindset back in Jan... that I was going to save Haiti. :) but what God is showing me everyday.... That Haiti is gonna save me.

Ahhh.... A sense of accomplishment and pride in a project well done as a team with my Hubby and his trusty drill. Thank you honey for putting up with all my trash to treasure adventures.

I have had this space in my Great Room between two huge windows that has just been a pain to decorate or do anything with. I have been collecting these old frames for a year (and seeing so many framed projects in blog land) and finally finding the last one in my daughters room. I love birds... everything birds... my husband and close friends laugh at me and call me the cookcoo lady... but anyways i don't care. so I found these awesome birds at cracker barrel after Christmas (yes, they are huge ornaments) for 75% off. so I bought them all. Another fav. of mine is Anthropology..... so I took myself and a friend to my not so local store and found these 3 cabinet knobs there at yes.... 75% off! Finally some spray paint to a few frames... that I purchased at my all time local favorite shop.... HOME SWEET HOME (on Middlebranch, for y'all locals. Tell Susan the sweet owner that Lauren sent you and blogged her shop... yes brownie points) and some ribbon and my Hot handy man (no gals I don't rent him out.) and Finally my Great Room eyesore of wall is beautiful and loved.

PS... I really stink at uploading and arranging my blog page... so I apologize for the length, just keep scrolling down and you will find all the pics... sorry.

I finally finished a project that I have been collecting pieces for and with the help of my hubster.... Happy Monday! Im ready to show you my finished project window hanging thingy that i posted pic of Friday but first i wanted to show you that even I have and know how to work a glue gun.... Meet Tiny Tim.... and yes my lil glue gun has a name! simple lampshade i had with leftover accent ribbon and chandalier crystal (hard to see in pic,,, sorry) but anyhoo I heated up Tiny Tim and clued that ribbon right on.

Here is my new and revamped Old window message station. My hubby taught me how to use the drill last night... Oh watch out I'm armed and loaded now! as you can see i updated the paint color to a Taupe color, added Chalkboard contact paper to the panes of glass i wanted.... I added some cute goodwill pedestal bowls to the holes Mr. Brad put in for flower pots.... staple gunned some hanging ribbon in Chocolate brown and a pattern that corridinates. as you can see i clipped clothes pins decorated with ribbon and chip board so that we can clip bills, school papers, notes, etc... up to the board. and yes this is the lamp you saw the quick update to the shade above. I plan on using the bowls for chalk and such... the moss ball i made myself and i have them everywhere in my house along with the cool numbers.... my oldest daughter's friend was here last evening and she was like "mrs. Lauren whats with all the numbers around the house? It's like they are following me or something, everywhere I turn there is another number..." HAHAHA I could only think about when Eve said that was.... the episode of sesame street where the numbers chased the monster! anyone remember that one? LOL

so anyways here is my finished message station. Thank you Susan for the awesome window. and i think i should give you some Waverly Curtains in exchange and to show my gratitude (note the chalkboard word in my pic) Have a great Manic Monday and to show Im a Manic Monday type person Im off to see The Duggar Family from TLC at my church tonight. yes Im a crazy person!

One Man's trash is my Bliss!!!

so I'm on my way to run an errand and I get totally distracted by a Yard sale sign down the road from me....my two smallest children screaming in the back seat" yes a yard sale mommy turn the car around" ( so proud to be their mom, I have taught them well). off the beaten path we went. Here is a snap shot or two of what i found. then I will tell you how much I paid.....

-yes, for all of it! I paid - .50 cents for the old chair( one of my many new redo projects in the future. -$1.00 for the antique chandelier (see close up shot... gorgeous and perfect for my old house!)

I also paid only .50 cents again for the wire basket/planter.

and my son got his own jeep (just like his Poppi (my daddy) I paid more than i wanted to but hey i got the power wheels minus battery for only $2.

Man i am not a patient girl by nature. but the more the holy spirit has led me to be more patient, the blessing sure have flown. I say this because I'm a instant gratification type. It has been so gratifying to yard sale and goodwill hunting to have this lesson taught to me. I have been able to find most of what I want for my house and what my kids want without giving into the debt trap to provide it for them.

I love to see how a little lesson in patience has created so much Bliss in my manor!!

Spring sprung again

Here is some more spring inspriration for ya! and my Audrey filling up the birdfeeder. one of her jobs. which she loves!

I really was thinking this morning How wonderful life really is. I get so caught up in the hustle and bustle of everything from the school pickup line to "what to make for supper" that I forget myself and the " growth" I earn for as a christian. I recently picked up my passion for decorating or well I should say "re- Decorating" again. When I say redecorating i mean i take something that i love even if its ugly and re-purpose it. I give it new life. I compare my passion of giving a treasure that may be trash to someone else new life, just like my life before and after christ.

My new project is our courtyard. I have an old bench, and a few other odds and ins that are getting "re-decorated" for the courtyard. I still need a lot of mulch and a lot of plants but I promise to post pics of my work in progress soon. I hope these days never end.

Well it is finally Spring In Dreary Canton Ohio! and I couldnt be happier! Last time i sat down to write there was snow on the ground. Ok so now that you know im such a procrastinator, i will tell ya im so excited to see the flowers starting to bloom and the buds on my tress getting bigger by the day. I m so happy to wake up to birds,lots of birds, singing. It just makes me so happy. I feel like spring is God's way of saying " see you can make it through another gloomy winter".and Make it I did! Here I would like to share my springtime photos of my home.

The Dining Room Table

I was thinking how people always say "the Kitchen is the heart of the home". I disagree. In our home it's the Dining Room. The dining table is a vehicle for so much more than a blessed meal to eat. It is where crafts are created and messy projects are done. It's where books are read by Mimi. It is a make shift office for my very business - Like daddy when they visist. It has been the center piece for so,so, so many birthday parties and gatherings. It has been the back drop for many nights of friends, families, board games and sometimes Too much Wine. (Good Times) This table has been surrounded by love,tears,laughter,shared stories, secrets keeped,heartache spilled out, surprises, and so much encouragement. We never set "just enough" place settings. There is always a few extra "adopted family members" running through the house. This table is where many bible lessons and life lessons have been taught. But still It is so much more. It is a ministry to my family, our guests, myself.The Bible says "where two or more are gathered in my name, I AM there also". How cool is that to think that Christ is always at our Table. and to know that christ is there at my table... that makes my Dining Room Truly the Heart of our Home!
I look forward to these times and memories that will continue to flow through my dining room with friends and love ones. I ask you blogger friends and family "what room is the heart of your home "?and Can you see Christ hanging around in there with you?

More snowing and Mowing

Ok all you people in the South I never want to hear you complain about your weather again unless it's like a Hurricane or something!!!! We have like Sub-zero temperatures, our poor fireplaces and Furnaces are working way too much over time and our Utility bills are going to put us all out on the streets! But my kids still insist on going out to play and Im not going to complain about fresh air for the kidos. Trent has never really been old enough to go out to enjoy the snow before and he absolutley loved it! I think he may have thought that his lawn mower magically turns into a snow blower when you can't seee the grass! Amazingly he stayed out side with daddy to play for a good half hour. and seriously have you seen the news... it's Cold out there! I also took the chance for some photo opps of some things in my yard that I thought was kinda neat that I will be able to look back on and remember this day exactly how it was. I was thinking in all this snow about sin and how even thru the ugly God's Grace covers us like snow. -PURE- White snow. So I challenged myself to think about the Grace in the snow even when the roads and pathways are so slickery and not so "Gracefull" ! (Kinda like my life)

The Great Binky Bereavement

Ignore the baby turtle and focus on the annoying binky! Ok so it has been like weeks since Trent has had his binky "magically disappear" and today out of the blue he is throwing a huge king sized fit. Audrey comes running through the house like a wonderful big sister should do and proceeds to tell me that "Trent wants his binky and I told him I will go get him one". I told her no way we dont have any more. she says "yeah huh mama, they are on top of the fridge"! OMG what now I'm lying to a almost 5 year old? Man again I ask myself why do kids know more than we do? If you are wondering if I gave into the Binky fight.... I held strong.(and moved the binkys to the trash can!) Trent is mourning his binky with a very cute pouty face.

Stomach Flu Mess... Yuck!

Ok this weekend we got hit with the stomach flu. How is it that it's always like a chain reaction? One throws up and you just have a gut feeling (no pun intended) there will be more to come just not sure which one it will be.Who will be next? So needless to say the washin machine was in overtime with sheets, blankets, pillowcases,towels, etc. luckily when mom got sick ("what!!!? a mom CAn't get sick!) daddy was home to take care of me... What a man. I just am pondering today why it seems that some catch the bug and some do not,but we live in the same home and breath the same air. And as I was pondering this question I thought "why is it I always end up being one of the ones who is sick"?

Maybe I need some kind of "Super MAMA Vitamin". I will say however the perk of being sick was that I got to stay on the couch yesterday and watch my favorite football team (Pittsburgh) kill the Chargers uninterrupted!!! Can I have a Holla from my Pittsburgh Followers?!!!

Baby It's Cold Outside

Okay first off I should explain the pictures.... cause there is always a story behind the obvious in this house. starting with the queen bee instigater : She is cold but she is the one who started the whole riot of "Mama, Mama, we want to play in the snow. mama, mama can we can we prety please oh pleassssseeeeee! Mama!!!" so after a search and rescue mission for hats, boots , gloves, etc. they have set out for the snow. The top right picture is of the view from our deck of the back yard. what a tranquil sight? It is so quiet, and calm untill I hear the girls down in the lower yard yelling "snowball fight". Awww the tranquility is over! our dog Sebastian loves loves loves the snow! he loves to roll around till he is covered in it. I think he thinks he is in the movie Snow Dogs. Now Audrey has been telling me for over a week" Mom I really need to make a ssnow angel because I'm an angel"... so today she got her wish! then like a goofball took her gloves off and froze her hands up.and that was then end to Audrey.s snow day.

As you can see Olivia and MacKezie made their own ramp to go down. They said "this is the best ride ever"! Trent and I stayed in where it is warm and cozy. The kids had enough of the snow ans came inside tied (woohoo) and ready for some of mama's Hot chocolate. I love Snow days because it's God's way of blessing you with free entertainment. As I end this blog this morning I think that Everyone should have a snowday and take a moment to listen to the snow Angels!

I have finally taken all my Christmas Decorations down and now Everything looks so boring. I was talking to my mom today and told her " I'm Bored" and she said " well Laur, you need a new Project". she is so right. Don't tell her I said she is right but man she is. So I think that Im going to change my piano up-to -date. I need to brainstorm so any suggetions out there let me know... Look at this ugly Boring thing. (Not tryingto hurt feelings nanny.)
